The Blind Assassin (2000)
Margaret Atwood (Author)

  Award Winner
The novel begins in Toronto in 1945 when 25-year-old Laura Chase commits suicide by driving off a bridge. Iris Chase Griffen, her older sister, has been responsible for Laura since their mother's death and seems more concerned with manners and appearances than with the loss of her sister. Yet as the memoir Iris writes later in life is entwined with sections of Laura's novel, posthumously published two years after her death, the stories lead to insights into both of their lives.
