Inkheart (2003) Cornelia Funke (Author)
Award Winner
Meggie's father Mo is a mender of books but, like his daughter, a person who also loves to read books. Mo has one little trait that he's kept hidden from Meggie and that's his ability to literally read a character out of a book. Several years ago he did just that when he was reading Inkheart and managed to read the evil Dustfinger and Capricorn out and his wife into the book. Now Dustfinger returns with Capricorn's demand for the book, which he plans to keep so that he can remain free. Mo asks Aunt Elinor to watch Meggie, but soon all three of them are busy trying to hide from Dustfinger and Capricorn. Mo manages to outwit all the evil guys when he finds Inkheart's author and has him rewrite the plot so Capricorn is eliminated. (534 pages)
