No Country for Old Men (2005)
Cormac McCarthy (Author)

  Award Winner
In 1980, Vietnam vet Llewelyn Moss is hunting antelope near the Rio Grande in southwest Texas when he comes across several dead men, a shipment of Mexican heroin, and $2.4 million in cash. Moss takes the money, and the hunter then becomes the hunted. He is targeted by escaped psychopathic killer Anton Chigurh, who double-crossed a drug cartel, and by ex-Army Special Forces agent Carson Wells, who now works for drug lords. Two more murders and a victim's burning car involve aging Sheriff Bell in the chase. Concerned about Moss's whereabouts, Bell, a decorated veteran, contemplates how life has changed, the destructiveness of modern society, a World War II incident in which he was involved, and the evil that surrounds him even as he tries to protect his territory. Bell's musings provide a counterpoint to action scenes of mounting violence.
