Brokeback Mountain: Story to Screenplay (2006) Larry McMurtry (Author) Annie Proulx (Author)
The story "Brokeback Mountain" was originally published in 1997 as a short story in the New Yorker, and then in 2000 in author Annie Proulx's collection Close Range. This volume contains both the original short story and the screenplay that was adapted from it by Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana. Both the story and the screenplay tell the tale of two ranch hands living in rural Wyoming, and of the destructive power of the secret they share. That secret is their love and desire for one another--a totally forbidden concept in 1960s in Wyoming. Forced to lie to themselves and the rest of the world, Jack and Ennis cannot forget one another.
