Inkspell (2005) Cornelia Funke (Author)
Award Winner
A year has passed since Meggie finished Inkheart, a book whose characters left their world and entered hers. One such character, the fire-eater Dustfinger, is desperate to return to Inkworld and finds a storyteller named Orpheus who can read him back into the book. Meggie longs to be part of such a magical place, and she follows Dustfinger. She soon realizes that she is in danger, learning that villains from Inkheart have been read into Inkworld by Orpheus. She further regrets her decision when she discovers her parents are also in Inkworld. Meggie locates Fengolio, the author of Inkheart, to try to write a suitable outcome for her and her parents. Her efforts to conclude the story and return to her world are complicated by war and violence within Inkworld.
