Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana (2008)
Anne Rice (Author)
Like its predecessor, this sequel to Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, is based on Biblical text and New Testament scholarship. The novel begins months before Jesus, known as Yeshua bar Joseph, is baptized and begins performing miracles. He becomes caught up in a family drama when he rescues Avigail, a beautiful young woman, from kidnappers. Her father shuts Avigail in their home and suggests that Jesus is not as chaste as he appears. Jesus is in fact in love with Avigail, but understands that serving the Lord supersedes his own desires and that his divine purpose keeps him from ordinary things such as love and marriage. Meanwhile, those who adore Jesus wait for a sign that he is ready to lead, to teach, and to act on his destiny. They receive just such a sign when Jesus turns six jars of water into red wine at a wedding in Cana.
