The Moneylender of Toulouse (2008) Alan Gordon (Author)
Set in thirteenth century France, secret agent Theophilos travels with his family to Toulouse on behalf of the Fools' Guild. His mission is to maneuver the current Bishop Raimon de Rabastens from his powerful post so that his vacancy may be filled with a bishop more supportive to the Guild. Soon after their arrival, a moneylender known for arguing with Rabastens is found dead. Another body is found and a local jester, Jordan, is jailed for the crime. Certain that the deaths are connected to his task, Theophilos and his wife, Claudia, begin their investigation into the murders, hoping to unseat the bishop and protect their beloved Guild.
