The Gate House (2008)
Nelson DeMille (Author)
In a sequel to The Gold Coast, John Sutter is reunited with his wealthy ex-wife, Susan, on Long Island's wealthy North Shore. In the previous novel, Susan had an affair with a Mafia don and then killed him. John divorced her and moved to London. Now he's back, and coincidentally living in the gate house on what was previously Susan's family's enormous estate. Post-9/11, however, things aren't what they once were. The estate has been divided into parcels of land and sold off to the nouveau riche, and Susan's family home is now inhabited by a wealthy Iranian. Susan is living in the area, however, and so is the son of her dead lover, who invites John to become his organization's attorney. John and Susan flirt with the idea of getting back together.
