The Bodies Left Behind (2008) Jeffery Deaver (Author)
After a call to 911 ends abruptly, Detective Brynn McKenzie is sent to investigate a vacation home on Lake Mondac. When she arrives Brynn not only finds a couple murdered, but armed gunmen still there trying to finish the job. Brynn and a friend of the victims, Michelle, manage to make it out of the house and into the surrounding backwoods, but not without injury. The gunmen pursue them through the Wisconsin wilderness, intent on leaving no witnesses. Now the two women are on their own with only their wits to defend themselves from all types of predators. Deaver delivers a suspense filled plot that starts the action with two grisly murders and never lets up.
