23rd Fighter Group: Chennault's Sharks (2009) Carl Molesworth (Author) Jim Laurier (Illustrator)
An authority on U.S. Air Force fighter groups, Carl Molesworth presents the story of one of the most famous of those units in 23rd Fighter Group: Chennault's Sharks. On July 4, 1942, the 23rd Fighter Group was initiated at Kunming, China, and ordered on its first operations on that day. The FG's young pilots, under the leadership of experienced American Volunteer Group airmen, took to the skies in battle-worn P-40s on dangerous combat missions against the Japanese. Known for the distinctive shark-mouth design painted on the noses of their squadrons' planes, the 23rd Fighter Group tallied hundreds of victories in the air and on the ground during its World War II missions over China.
