In the summer of 1972, five-year-old Jens Davidsson goes missing on the Swedish island of Oland. Jens slipped out of the house while his grandmother slept, and his mother Julia and grandfather Gerlof were away. No trace of Jens was ever found, until now. Twenty years later, Gerlof receives a child's sandal in the mail, Jens' sandal. Julia returns to Stenvik and hopes that she will finally find the answers she desperately needs regarding her son's disappearance. Gerlof believes that Nils Kant may have something to do with Jens' disappearance. A local man who killed two German soldiers on the island during World War II, Nils has become a frightful figure who supposedly roams Oland at night.
