While fishing in a creek, Annie Taylor and her brother William witness an execution carried out by four men. The sight sends them running through the woods of northern Idaho, inclined to distrust anyone they meet. The four men, who are retired corrupt police officers, set out to silence the two young witnesses. A search is soon underway for the missing kids and the killers offer their help to the town sheriff, who gladly accepts. When Annie and William find a barn to hide in for the night, they meet rancher Jess Rawlins, the only trustworthy person willing to help them.
