The Lord of the Rings (1954) J.R.R. Tolkien (Author)
The Dark Lord Sauron has discovered that the Ring of Power is in the possession of a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, in the far west of Middle-Earth. With the Ring, Sauron will have ultimate control over Middle-Earth. Before he can recover it, however, Bilbo's heir Frodo Baggins has begun a long, terrifying journey into the heart of the enemy's land to destroy the Ring, thereby stripping Sauron of his power. Frodo and his companions must contend with trolls, the Orcs, Sauron's henchmen, Gollum, the Ring's former owner, and the Ring itself, which feeds its wearer the desire for power and domination. The Hobbit, in which Bilbo first discovers the Ring, is the prequel to this trilogy.
