Family: Born July 14, 1860, in Germantown, PA; died of a cerebral hemorrhage, July 21, 1938, in North Kingstown, RI; son of Owen Jones (a physician) and Sarah (a writer, translator, and pianist; maiden name, Butler) Wister; married Mary Channing Wister (a second cousin once removed), 1898 (died 1913); children: three sons, three daughters. Education: Attended schools in Hofwyl, Switzerland, 1870-71, and in England, 1871-72; attended Germantown Academy, 1872, and St. Paul's School (Concord, NH), 1873-78; Harvard University, B.A. (music; summa cum laude), 1882; studied music in Paris, 1882-83; Harvard Law School, LL.B., 1888. Memberships: American Academy, Society of Letters, Paris (honorary member), Royal Society of Literature, London (honorary fellow).
